Rain!

It has been raining since four days now. It is amazing how much water is in the stores up there. But I am a little sceptical about the rain's timing. It starts raining when I start for the office and it accompanies me on my return journey as well. Are the clouds in the mood of a prank? I don't know.

But lately I have started liking this rain. Look for the anxious steps, when it turns dark. Look for the ladies, ready with their armours-the colourful umbrellas. And yes the boys. Forget them, they will brave the rains. Wet clothes, soaked emotions, refreshed minds and rejuvenated spirits that is what the rains are. Before I turn philosophical and Wordsworth creeps in, I will tell you the most important discovery I have made about rains. And that is "rain brings time”. The time you spend in a cosy corner of your room. The time you start introspecting and reflecting.

Sometimes I really wonder, what is so special about rains. Are they just the result of what we call a "evaporation cycle" or are they just means of raising the levels of the water table? I have realized rains are not just these. It cannot be. The Almighty has a purpose behind each creation of His.

I think of rain and I think of life. Aah! Mr. Wordsworth seems to be around. When I close my eyes, stretch my hands and the rain starts beating, I realize these drops are not just drops but they stand for the difficulties that we face in life. There will be scores of them, ready to beat you down, force you to stop and take a shelter. But be brave, come out and get soaked and you will surge ahead. This is what rain teaches you. On the contrary rain drops can be bundles of joy and happiness that the Provident showers upon you. Now it is up to you how you take it. You can very well stay away and watch others enjoying these rains or you can come out and grab these gifts with open hands.

Have you ever noticed the strange connection between “Rain” and two other favourite words of mine, “Pain” and “Gain”? Be in sorrow or joy, it rains tears. It comes to your rescue when you are hurt and adds value to your happiness when you gain something. It is always a pleasant sight to see tears of joy, love and achievements. It is amazing how rain touches both physical and metaphysical forms of our lives.

I cannot resist writing a small poetry here.

Baarish ki boonden tap tap tapak rahi thin

Dil ke Kisi soone kone mein dastak de rahi thin

Aaj bhigne ka mausam aaya hai

Bin piye jhoomne ka mausam aaya hai

Dil tu ro mat

Aaj Kisi aur ke rone ka waqt aaya hai.

It doesn’t matter, what meaning of rain you attach yourself to. Each of it teaches you something. The path of life is dusty but the rains are there. Difficulties will come, face them and you will see drops of happiness trickling down. A day will come, when it will rain so hard that you will find yourself floating on the sea of happiness, success and satisfaction.

It’s already five by my watch. Time to go. And see, it has started raining again, may be with some new meaning this time. Friends, it’s raining time. Keep reflecting.

  8. beautiful...atul i must say..ur one liners are definitely far reaching man...."aankhe bhigi to man bhiga.." u really touched some chords...

and answer to ur question will be...u lose when u gain..ironic isn't it....u gain money bt u lose peace of mind...u gain status bt lose friends....u gain respect bt lose love...u gain in age ..u lose innocence...u gain a family ..u lose ur friends...so friend this word gain is basically a misnomer....
